I haven’t always had a creative studio space. For the first 23 years of our marriage I worked all over the house; the kitchen table, a corner of the master bedroom, or even the garage. I learned that you can make a space for yourself to be creative no matter how small your place is.
But finally ten years ago, we were able to make a larger space for a room of my own. And we’ve moved it twice since we settled into our home here on Stone House Lane.
Last year, Mike and I switched our creative spaces. He needed more room for his wood shop and I wanted to add a few things to the little space that is my creative studio. It was a big move and he’s still in the process of setting up his room, he’s had to wait months for a sliding table saw.
Before we actually moved, we put ALL of my supplies into clear plastic bins. And I threw away a TON of stuff. I think this made it much easier to start over in my brand new room.
Do you guys have lots of supplies that are old and not usable anymore? I strongly urge you to purge your craft/art supplies, it feels soooo good!
We added the table that Mike made years ago but he had to cut it down to fit better into the new room…
I wanted the space to have lots of room for all of my supplies as well as having a perfect for area for working…
Between the cabinet, the shelves, the table, the armoire, and a large closet I’ve got plenty of room for all of my stuff…but I might just be about to grow out of that storage space if I buy anything else!
Last year I kept a little Christmas tree in my studio all year. How can I say this … 2019 will be no different. 😉
Don’t worry it’s not decorated, there are just tiny lights. Tiny lights on a little tree…seems harmless right?
Some of my storage is pretty, like this fun paper hanger which is not only great storage, but it’s almost like a piece of art when you showcase just the right paper.
And the armoire is one of my favorite pieces. It’s been all over the house.
When we first moved in we put it in my first project room in an upstairs guest room, next we moved it downstairs to the master bathroom for linen storage. When we remodeled the master bath, we moved it to the master bedroom for extra storage. Finally it landed downstairs on the lower level in my new craft studio! My son-in-law said if we move it one more time he’s going to chop it up and bury it in the backyard! (Apparently it’s extremely heavy!)
I also added a rag rug that is perfect for camouflaging any spills…
One of the best things about the new room is this attached screen porch. The pups and the cat love it for lounging and I love to have lunch out there… I kinda love this corner, and the bathroom is just across the hall…
I’ve never had a comfy couch in my project room, I love it , but honestly, the pups love it more…
I’m really thankful for this little room, it’s far enough from our living space that I can get away from my “chores” and focus on something creative. If you guys want a space to express yourself, look at it as therapeutic. Like I said in the beginning of this post, a creative space can be created in even the smallest home. Keep your supplies in under the bed boxes and pull them out to work in the kitchen, breakfast room, dining room or a corner of the couch. Wherever you choose, it has to be yours. Make it comfy, and peaceful, and overall conducive to your creative process.
Here are a few posts about some of my past creative studio spaces …

Do you have a little space to get away and create?!?
Thank you for sharing your beautiful space with us ❤️ I am just trying to downsize my craft room to move. Not easy but I just need a cozy corner to make it work out!!!
Beautiful as always Robin. You and Mike make such a great team. You make your home have such a cozy feel. You inspire me to do more and ideas for my own home.
Robin,
What a lovely space to work in! And it just shouts “YOU”. I was wondering where the cabinets with the long flat drawers came from. They really caught my eye.
