I have a few treasured prayers that have become such a part of my essence that the words flow without effort in times of turmoil and in times of joy.
The Lord’s prayer is one of those and the 23rd Psalm which I started saying 30 years ago as a way to comfort my hurting soul. On bended knee with a heavy heart, I whispered the shepherds thoughts…“the Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want…by the time I heard myself close with David’s words: “…and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” the burden was lightened and there was peace in it’s place. These days, I whisper those words any and everywhere, while I’m driving, taking a walk or folding clothes, they keep me centered and remind me of God’s faithfulness over and over in my life.
Another prayer that I’ve whispered a thousand times isn’t from scripture but is a phrase from an old song called More of Jesus sung by Mylon Lefevre & Broken Heart.
“Break my heart and change my mind~
Cut me lose from ties that bind~
Lead me as I follow You~
Give me the strength to follow through”
In this season of Lent, this prayer expresses the deepest desire of my heart.
In case you have a moment and would like to hear the song, I’m linking to YouTube. But I have to warn you, the video may take away from the beauty of the song,(so much 80’s hair and fashion) nevertheless, if you have a few minutes, minimize the screen and meditate on these words Sweet Friends~
(the musical intro is a minute long, if you’re short on time start 1 minute in…)
I’m wondering, do you have prayers that flow from your heart time and time again?
