I replaced two of the lamps in the den recently. In picking out lamps, I looked at tons! Here are the ones I decided on. They don’t match, which as it turns out, I actually like!
Since I have two lamps-with similar finishes but very different price-points, I thought I’d do a little comparison.
One came from Target and one from eBay!
The Target lamps aren’t available online any more and are scarce in the stores, which is why I only have one of them. I hope they don’t plan on discontinuing them, ’cause they’re a great buy!
I got the other lamp online. I was looking for a wood lamp with a finish similar to the washed wood on the Target lamp. I found lots of whitewashed or washed wood lamps but they were all out of my price range. This Bassett lamp was listed in several places online for around $200.00, which was less than the other ones, but still more than I wanted to spend.
I didn’t give up though and guess what? After searching and searching…I found the Bassett lamp on EBay for $136.00!
It arrived in no time in perfect condition, in the unopened box!
The color was slightly darker than I wanted but the quality is great. It’s nice and heavy (have you ever had a floor lamp that was lightweight and shaky? I have and they drive me nuts!), and most of all I adore the shade!
The Target lamp is slightly shorter than the Bassett lamp and isn’t as heavy.
But I love the finish of the wood on the Target lamp…
All in all, I don’t think the Bassett lamp is worth twice as much as the one from Target! If I could have located 2 Target lamps, I would be very happy with two of the same…
When I asked Reba-the-Cat which one she likes best, she made it clear that she much prefers the more expensive lamp…isn’t that just like a kitteh?
No matter what Reba-the-Cat thinks I’m happy with both of them!
Sending love your way
I have an awesome, heavy floor lamp that, as of this past weekend, doesn’t match my newly remodeled den. (Dark green with gold trim.yuck) I don’t want to get rid of it but am hesitate to paint the base. Lowes has the perfect shade.:-) Oh the dilemma.
Felicia…hummmmm, wonder how the base would look painted???? Oh I might just go for it! xoxo
Cats are so posh! I have to agree though, Reba-the-Cat has excellent test, I love the lamp shade! But from where I sit they don’t lokk that different that one should be twice the price of the other!
Magali, I agree! Twice the price is a bit much isn’t it? xo
I like both of them!! Love that shade on the Bassett one too. They really look great together too. We just switched lamps in our living room yeterday! It seems many bloggers have lamps on their minds today! XO, Pinky
Pinky, Did you have a hard time finding your new lamps? I seem to be able to find lamps when I don’t need them! xo
