I did it! I organized the junk drawer!
And organizing the junk drawer in the kitchen along with organizing my garage shelves were my two little organizing goals for January!
This little project took no time and I when I was done I felt silly for putting up with my out-of-control junk drawer for so long…
I mean, seriously Robin???
TJ Max had a handy dandy drawer organizer…
After pulling everything out and only putting back what I actually use here in the kitchen, I realized I was simply throwing things in the junk drawer to avoid putting them away. Most of what was in there belonged upstairs in my project room!
I was on a roll so I tackled my other junk drawer…I know it’s ridiculous to have two!
This drawer is where I keep some camera stuff that I use all the time. (Battery charger, USB cable, camera remote) My emergency pair of reading glasses, (you know when all 15 other pairs are lost-which happens at least once a month) and a few other things that I like to have handy. I didn’t take any more “before” shots because they were making me nervous, but here it is after I cleaned it out!
(I’ve no idea what that key goes to but I was afraid to throw it away…do you have mystery keys?)
Having organized the first junk drawer and purged it of my note cards, I made a place for them in the table under the kitchen TV. Does this mean I have THREE junk drawers? Wow.
I need my note cards close by because I still like to send snail mail every once in a while, don’t you?
This whole process took just under an hour and no kidding, I feel so much better.
ps…I’m adding a little basket to the kitchen to catch all the things that I’ve been stashing in my junk drawer. My plan is to empty the basket every few days by actually putting things away- this way my junk drawer will only have to hold my pertinent junk! I’ll let you know how it goes 🙂
Organizing Goals – January
1- Organize Junk Drawers-DONE!
2- Organize Garage Shelves-WORKING ON IT!

Did you make organizing goals for January? If so, how are they going?
Also, tell me about your junk drawer. Am I the only one who rakes everything in a drawer as opposed to putting things away!!!?

I’m still riding high on my organized spice rack!
My junk drawerS…note the S… plural….hmmmm…okay, I’ll at least consider tackling them. Yours do look awfully cute.
XOXOXO
Julie, I’m so happy you have more than one junk drawer! Try cleaning it out while we talk on the phone, it’ll be fun! xo
Looks great but really your unorganized drawer doesn’t look too bad. 😉 I have those same little white baskets around the house. 🙂
Gina, you can’t believe what I had crammed in that little drawer! I’ve got to start putting up my clutter 🙂
Looks great. Where did you find the trays? Thanks
Patty, I should have put it in the post! Sorry…I got everything at TJMax for super cheap! xo
Yay you! The junk drawer is always such a pain to keep control of. Want to come over and work your magic on my junk drawer?
Robin, ya know you’re right, getting it organized isn’t half as hard as keeping it under control!!!
I have those same white baskets in my drawers. They work okay but I like what you replaced them with more. Where did you find that organizer, Robin? Looks great, by the way! I think we all tend to have more than one junk drawer these days. 🙂
I am working on cleaning all my trim work around the house. It is white and boy does the dust collect on them! Next, I will be tackling my kitchen cabinets and drawers by cleaning them out and giving them a good scrubbing. 🙂
Eileen, you are going to be way ahead of spring cleaning! I got the organizer at TJMax! It was $7.99! I really need to repaint some of the trim in the new house and I’m kinda dreading it, thinking that when I start I’ll realize all of it needs a fresh coat of paint!!!!!! xoxo
I’m hoping to reorganize the storage room. Katie and Bryan (daughter and husband) moved to their own home before Christmas. They lived in the “Back room” next to the storage room where they stored their stuff. Now the room they moved out of has all the Christmas decorations until I can get the storage room reorganized to all the Christmas decorations to it. YIKES. I loved having them here but life is finally starting to get back to normal.
Elaine, that sounds like a big job but the bigger the job the better I feel when it’s over! Good luck friend!
Robin- your junk looks so pretty. 🙂 I was thinking I don’t have a junk drawer but then I started to clean and got some new baskets and I have 3 very messy drawers. I have too much junk so I have cleaned my pantry and working on the kitchen this weekend.
Jen~you are on a role!!! Goooooo girl! xoxo
Ok – is it just me, or is Robin’s “junk” much prettier than my “junk”?? Maybe I need to go out and buy new junk! LOL
Thanks for the inspiration anyway!
Cathy, hahahahaha! You know the sad thing – we have only lived here 9 months, so all that junk is new! xoxo
Every household has an unorganized mess that is otherwise known as the junk drawer. It is the place where the things that could one day be useful go to die a slow and dusty death.
But it is time to sit up and pay attention because apparently now your junk drawer can cause your house to go up in flames!
