I have been slowly working on adding a bit of rustic to my white kitchen…I posted about it HERE
Here are a few things I’ve already done to infuse a rustic feel to the living area…
And here are some things I’m planning to warm up my white kitchen…
Ya see that a repurposed shelf is on that board…well, the other day, I decided it was time to put up a rustic looking window shelf.
We keep loads of planks on hand, most are beautiful exotic woods, but I couldn’t find a just-right piece until I looked through the pile from some old pallets The Husband brought home!
Seriously, there’s nothing like aged pallet wood, except maybe aged barn wood to infuse a little warmth into a space. The shelf is held in place with long wood screws …
But I added some iron hooks for the fun of it. 🙂 The pallet shelf is the perfect home for my little terra cotta pots because nothing goes better with aged terra cotta than rustic wood …oh, and Teal-Blue-Pig is happy up here too. 🙂
Does anybody else have a shelf over the kitchen window? If you do, what do you keep up there!???
Sending love my sweet friends

Love the look! Perfect little addition to your pretty kitchen.
Julia, thank you sweetie! xo
The shelf is adorable! I would love to do that in my office area or my laundry room.
Stacey, thank you! I did one in my laundry room too! Let me know if you put one in, I’d love to see it! xo
This looks great! Isn’t it amazing what you can do with pallets? I see that you are like me and have a handy husband who happily assists you! 🙂
Paula, yes my hubby is my partner-in-projects! It’s kinda wonderful isn’t it??? ox
I love this!! Perfect rustic addition. 🙂 I saw a picture similar on Pinterest and thought it was such a fabulous idea.
Gina, thank you! I love the rustic feel of pallet wood don’t you!? xo

Ang, thank you so much sweetie! xo
Love the dark wood! Hmmmm–wish I had a kitchen window to do this on. I have bay windows. Maybe it would still work? Will ask Ricky.
Julie, Ricky knows everything! He’ll tell ya if it would work! ox
After I finished reading your blog, Robin, I said to myself, “I wish she lived closer. I think we could be friends.”
Loved your little shelf. Do you have any herbs in the pots?
Barbara, you just made my day my friend. I’d love to live close and be face to face friends 🙂 I don’t get enough sun in this window to have any herbs! I sure wish I did!xoxox
Love your shelf! I have a window ledge and I keep pictures of my grandchildren and change out seasonal decor items that I have collected through the year, oh and some of my knockout roses from my flowerbeds when they are at their peak. It always looks cheerful!
CV I love the idea of keeping pics of your grandchildren on the window ledge!!! (and of course the roses!)
Found your blog through Hometalk. Looking forward to adding rustic decor to our “new” home. :O)
LuAnn, so happy you have a ‘new’ home to nest in! xo
