My favorite plants are succulents. They aren’t perfect plants mind you, I mean, any plant that breaks so easily is just a bit frustrating…
I can’t tell you how many pieces have broken off this little succulent fairy garden since I planted it 8 months ago. I’ll just walk by and brush up against one of those long tendrils and 5 little leaves plop to the floor!
Here’s how it looked when I first planted it last June…
It’s more like a Fairy Jungle now 🙂
One reason this little garden is thriving…all those tiny broken pieces…
When a leaf breaks off, I’d never consider just throwing it out…I suppose I relate to those little broken leaves. Instead, I replant the leaf …and give it another chance…
Don’t let the appearance fool you…these little broken leaves are resting and rejuvenating until they’re ready to grow again…
When I start seeing those tiny spider-web like roots, I gently plant the broken piece into one of my succulent arrangements, where those roots dig their way into the porous soil. Before long, these once broken leaves start growing and producing the most beautiful new succulents.
Something new from something broken…
Can any of you guys relate to that? We’re barely into a brand new year and as the months fly by, I’m pretty sure that some of us will have some broken pieces…a job loss, a dream dies, a health issue, family problems…you know what I mean…
If that happens, will you remember that often, given a little time, it’s the broken pieces that can add beauty to a life.
Maybe some of you are even feeling a little broken right now…if so, be kind to yourself.
Rest.
Rejuvenate.
You’ll be thriving again soon, you’ll see…

Love the mini banner you placed in the garden!
I love succulent gardens! When you save the broken leaves, where do you keep them until they begin to show roots? Do you put them on top of the soil or in water? Thanks in advance!
Michele, I have a pot of cactus soil in my laundry room window and I put the leaves into the soil until they root! xo
Lovely post Robin. Isn’t it wonderful that all those broken pieces in life can become something beautiful! It gives us so much hope!
I smiled when I spotted the miniature pot laying amidst the succulents. I love it! xxoo
