The pondless waterfall is one of the first projects The Husband did in our big backyard makeover! Today, I wanted to give you a peek of that first project!
(This is an updated photo…year 4)
Here’s the waterfall when we first finished it…
UPDATE*** A year later, here’s the waterfall …the plants are growing beautifully!
UPDATE: 2 years later!
UPDATE 3 years later…
UPDATE 4 years later!
And here’s a photo of the space before we moved into the house …
And here is the space a year ago, last fall…
These are some pics during construction…we got lots of our supplies from The Home Depot (although a few things came from a pond store). The Husband researched (googled) how to install a pondless waterfall and started digging! 🙂 He is ever-so-handy, so although it was a labor intensive project it wasn’t difficult, or so he says!
This space here over the wall was absolutely meant for a waterfall, The Husband got a BIG pump to make certain we could hear the sound of running water from the screen porch! (I mean this pump is kinda like a Tim-the-Tool-Man-Taylor pump!)
It’s the most wonderful sound, that water running over rocks, and as it turns out, we not only hear it on the screen porch but we can also hear it throughout the living area of the house when the double doors (going out to the screen porch) are open…
And we love the fact that it’s pondless so there’s no worry with our four tiny granddaughters running around in the yard!
Do any of you have a water feature in the yard? If you do, tell me about it!
Sending love my friends xo

Lovely. What a perfectly wonderful idea to have a waterfall without the worry of a pool or pond. Your home is so well thought out, it really is beautiful.
I have really wanted one of these in our yard since we have a really big hill. I need to work on the hubby yet though because he’ll have to do the digging. Love yours!
Wow! Looks stunning…
Beautiful! It looks like it has always been there. We had a dry creek made at our last home.
I would love a pond but I wouldn’t be able to keep my dogs out.
The pondless waterfall is BEAUTIFUL!!! I envy you. Wish my husband would do one in our backyard. Love it!!
This is so stunningly beautiful! Most people don’t like having a hill in their back yard but you all have transformed it and created a serene and tranquil space. I’m ready to hire your hubs to come transform my yard!!! Bravo to you both!
Does the bottom of the pool end near the existing sidewalk. Beautiful waterfall. Hug your creative husband for me. I have one of those creative guys too. We make a good team. Actually, I envision it and he makes it happen or dies trying. What a guy.
Robin this turned out beautiful! You absolutely have the perfect setting!! Bravo to you and your hubby!!~~Angela
Thanks for sharing, Robin. We have a huge spring fed pond and I wish we would install a pump to make a waterfall. We have the rocks in place already. In fact they have been there for at least seven years.
I love this, Robin! So pretty. I have a tiny pond in my backyard with a small waterfall. It is home to about a dozen goldfish and an occasional frog or two. I winter them over with a stock tank heater. I’m sure that you’ll get many years of enjoyment from your pondless waterfall, and the birds and small animals will, too!
Fabulous project, Robin!! The sound of a waterfall is so relaxing. I’m sure you will enjoy it for years to come. Blessings, Connie B.
Exquisite! Can’t wait to show Mike’s BFF tonight!!! Maybe they’ll have to call each other and chat about the details–catch up on things. 🙂
Pinning this.
Thanks for pinning friend xo
How would you prepare this for winter? I would love to have one and also have a hubby who could make this happen…
Adele, we don’t do anything for winter! We leave the pump off unless we’re out on the porch or in the back yard…in the spring & fall we have to get leaves and sticks out of the rocks…but that’s it! (our pump is very big so the sound is good and loud…we have to refill our waterfall every other day if we’re running it a lot-but we just have the hose nearby and it’s no trouble!) Hope this helps my friend xo
you guys done an awesome job on this and I bet it is so relaxing. Was wondering about a good idea of where to get all the rocks. Thanks for sharing.
Bob…thank you! I think if you have a local pond store (we have one with 15 ponds built on the property) they might have stones to deliver…believe it or not all of our stones came from our yard! Rocky soil I guess 🙂
It looks so amazing. I have wanted and tried to get a small waterfall and dry river bed. this is just great
Darla, it’s a nice idea especially when you have kids you don’t want to worry about with a pond! ox
I would love to have a beautiful water feature like this in our yard! Thanks for sharing at Merry Monday!
What capacity pump did you need for you waterfall?
Hi,
You’re waterfall turned out great. Hubby has been aching to do this for a while. Do you have your step by step instructions you’d be willing to share?
Chris…thank you! We didn’t do instructions for the waterfall- to figure it out we googled and talked with people from our local pond store…Good luck!
