The Husband decided he wanted to make an entry mirror out of some old wood planks for his first project of 2014!
I loved the idea and in all fairness he told me how big the mirror would be, but I must not have been really listening…
Without the frame the mirror is 4 X 7…it’s a statement piece for sure….
The Husband likes the big payoff on his projects and on this project it’s a really good thing!
If you wanted to make your own version here’s all you have to do….
Supplies:
*2 X 7 planks of wood…the older the better
*Wood Screws
*4 X 7 piece of plywood
*Mirror (We used antiqued-beveled)
*Liquid Nails for glass
*Router
How To:
First make a frame using the 2 X 7 planks of wood – Before putting the frame together, cut grooves out in the back of the 2 X 7’s using a router- After the grooves are cut, put the frame together with wood screws (or if you have one, use a fancy tool like The Husband’s Festool Domino)…
Fit your plywood into the grooves and attach it to the back of the frame using wood screws…
Glue the mirror onto the plywood using liquid nails for glass…
If your mirror is large, attach it at the bottom corners with large screws and some chain to keep it from sliding out – then find a stud at the top to secure mirror to the wall…
Here’s the frame with the plywood…
The Mirror we ordered (from a local glass company) is antiqued. Here’s how the finish looks up close…
And in this shot you can see the far away effect of the antique mirror…just a little fuzzy…
We wanted the mirror to look old since the frame is so aged and rustic…now we just need a big rug!!! I found a great Mohawk rug, I can’t wait to show you guys!
I love it and with all the projects he’s done this one was super fast!
Sending love my friends

Beautiful. Just beautiful!
Thanks Julie! I’ll tell him you said so! ox
First of all, it looks AMAZING! Secondly, I thought for a second the first time I saw it that it was a doorway! It reflects the room perfectly. :O)
LuAnn! That’s what The Husband said!!! He loves how it reflects the room! xo Thank you friend xo
Beautiful! I love the size!!!~~Ang
This is gorgeous!! I think this is something I “may” be able to do. Do you mind sharing how much a piece of glass that size costs? I know that it will vary from company to company and area, but just a ballpark figure would be appreciated. Knowing me~I will need a back up piece. Thank you!! I love all of your posts and appreciate you sharing your creations with us. 🙂
Jennifer, the glass is kinda expensive…but if you do a mirror that’s smaller it’s doable! The giant one we got would be over a thousand bucks (we got it from a friend for cheaper)- but a 2 X 4 is more affordable at around $200-225…BUT I think you could use mirror squares! Those are super cheap and the lines would add interest! I’m sure there’s a way to do it cheaper! (maybe I’ll get The Husband to do one with mirror squares!) xo
That looks amazing! Very, very pretty~
You should do DIY videos of your projects.
