If you and I have been hanging out for a while, you know I believe, that everything I do in my home is an reflection of my heart. These rustic memory ornaments are a good example.
This post is part of 31 Days of Handmade Christmas Ornaments! 31 bloggers will be bringing you a handmade ornament each day in October. Why October for Christmas? Well, it’s the perfect time if you want to do a little ornament making before the rush begins right around November 1st!
So today, Day 5 of our 31 Days, is my turn! If you’ve got a minute, I’ll show you how easy this is and give you another idea for using these memory ornament!
My first thought was to make them with a metallic deer silhouette, but I realized how much more they would mean if I decoupaged some copies of old photos onto the wood slices.
Here’s What You Need:
*Wood Slices (found at Michael’s)
*Copies of Old Photos
(I used this inkjet printer:
HP Officejet 6700 Premium)
printer is an affiliate link
*Decoupage Medium & Brush
*Fine Grit Sand Paper (small piece)
*Paper with a design you like (if you want to make ornaments other than photo ornaments)
The paper I used is DecouPage Paper from DecoArt
Simply cut out your design and decoupage it to your wood slice… Add a coat to the top to seal the image. When the top coat is completely dry, lightly sand over the entire piece. This gives it a more worn, rustic look (this step is optional)…
Do you host Thanksgiving? If so, these ornaments would be a meaningful gift to give your guests. Hanging them on some branches and letting each person pick one to take home might be nice. Using photos of holidays-past would be especially meaningful…
Or just make a few for your Christmas tree using meaningful pictures. The photos I copied were my mama as a tiny girl and my daddy in his baseball uniform next to my darling Gramma…
