This strawberry trifle is light and fluffy and has the surprise taste of bananas! It’s quick and easy to put together and once you do, just look at it! It’s so pretty!
Strawberry Trifle
1 lg. Container of fresh strawberries~sliced
4 Bananas~sliced
1 lg.pkg. of Instant Vanilla Pudding
2 1/2 Cups of whole milk
1 Can Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 Angel Food Cake (store bought is fine!)~Cut into cubes
1 Large Cool Whip
Prepare pudding mix with milk and sweetened condensed milk. When the pudding starts to thicken, fold in HALF the coolwhip.
Layer half the cake pieces, half the pudding, half the bananas, half the strawberries (arrange a few strawberry slices around edges of glass dish so they look pretty!)
Repeat layers and top with the other half of cool whip!
Enjoy! I think you’ll want to add this to your recipe file!
Sending Love and All Things Sweet this weekend!
I have tried making GF angel food cakes from scratch in the past. They didn’t get right. Perhaps just a white cake would work better. – just my experience.
Mother and I were talking about this very thing the other day. She begged me to eat a piece of angel food cake her neighbor had made. She said, “It only has eggs and sugar in it.”
Of course, I didn’t. I came home and googled it. Found out it probably had cake flour in it and also found several GF angel food cake recipes. Wondered if our Pamela’s Pancake/Flour would work?
The cake looks amazing with or without gluten. And I’m so proud of you for standing up to the challenge!
I have a friend who swears by this recipe:

I’ve not tried it yet, so I can’t attest to it’s flavor & weight.
Your trifle looks so fresh & delish! One of my favorite desserts, ever.
Thanks, Melody. I’ll have to try it!
I make that trifle all of the time and everyone loves it 🙂 I’m so sorry the sugar addiction is so hard! My mother took sugar away from us when we were young- yes cold turkey. I thought I was in heaven when I went to college and could pick dessert to eat after every meal. But, I found I couldn’t handle too much sugar. Even today, I can go days without a hint of needing or wanting sugar. Good for you for getting back up on the no sugar horse for awhile again. Keep hanging in there! Love you!
That’s how we do it. Strict during the week then not so much on the weekend. We got carried away the first weekend and felt horrible physically. Now we don’t over indulge…just indulge a little 😉 Thanks for the advice about the grandson. I am having a blast with him every other week and I am keeping my mouth shut. Ha! Not always easy…..
so glad for this update! i’m contemplating going g-f and s-f, but don’t know if i should try to do both at the same time. i’m finding paleo recipes pretty interesting, and i KNOW that going g-f will be easier than going s-f.
i’m SO PROUD OF YOU for sticking with it and being obedient to the process. i wish you were feeling better. feels like the only safe place to eat is at home, huh? sad face.
hugs and cheers, girl. you did it! would love for you to share the smoothie recipes you and The Husband came up with during this time.
I can imagine how hard this is for you. Giving up anything that we crave is HARD WORK. I am so proud of you. I see several have sent you recipes. That trifle looks SOOO yummy! Have a beautiful weekend. We will be filling the dumpster:):):) XO, Pinky
I too took a sugar vacation, vacation on Easter as I mentioned when you previously wrote about it in Feb. I totally know what you mean about the cravings for the rest of the day. My brain and body were nearly uncontrollable. I think I was salivating for the rest of the day. In my expereince and from other things I’ve read it’s best to fight craving for sweet with protein. It helps you feel satiated and keeps your blood sugar under control if you’ve have the sweet stuff in your system. After we ate dinner that evening I was able to “come off the ledge”.
After being off the sweet stuff for 3 months (a littel tapering involved) I learned that I probably won’t go back to adding it in my coffee again (OK maybe if it’s a treat from Starbucks at Christmas), I learned to enjoy plain Greek yogurt with a few frozen berries added to it, and a little really does go a long way now. Give me a Dove Dark chocolate and I’m good. I think I may have treat or two about once a month but I feel so happy and healthier just knowing I’ve eliminated this item that my body truely has no use for.
Now we are “stuck” with THREE boxes of Girls Scout cookies in the freezer that may take us all year to eat. I guess we could share them with others but that just seems wrong. Girl Scout cookies were created to be hoarded right?
Best of luck and keep up the good fight!
Well, that stinks that you didn’t feel better. Hopefully it was just gluten and you will reap the benefits of less sugar. I must ask what you have been sweetening your coffee with…maybe you already mentioned it but I can’t remember. 🙂 Wouldn’t it be grand to get off of the “roller coaster?” =/ Lots of luck with your next phase. 🙂
Many days I don’t have any added sugars, some days I just have to. Trader Joe’s 75% dark chocolate bar is very satisfying, so I can get by with a little of that.

Sugar’s a really hard one. Especially when you have a restricted diet and there’s not always something edible immediately apparent. I eat a lot of fruit and dried fruit– that helps, even if it’s sugar in its own way, it’s sugar that comes along with fiber and a lot of nutrients.
