Summer conjures up visions of long lazy afternoons reading on the porch, cooling off with a soft breeze from the ceiling fan and a tall glass of iced tea. Because we live in the south, our screen porch is really a three season room and every season gives me an excuse to change things up a bit. Today I’m doing a little summer porch decorating with the help of my friends at Birch Lane!
I’m inclined to believe that summer porch decorating shouldn’t be fussy…but easy breezy like summer herself…
Even in simple decorating, there are a few elements that can be used to give your space a dose of delight!
First, plants!
It’s summer after all, and there’s no better way to celebrate the season than with all-shades of gorgeous green…or if green isn’t your thing, add some happy summer blooms to your porch!
(These beautiful urns add the perfect rustic touch to my flirty ferns!)
Next, a side table.
And a side table isn’t just to hold morning coffee or afternoon tea, it’s the perfect place to insert a little pizazz and personality into a space! (Like this fun teak table)
Add a splash of color…
You know, that color that makes you happy – deep down happy. For me, in every room, I tuck in a bit of teal blue…
Like this ceramic planter , the splash doesn’t have to be big to have an impact…
It just has to be your color…
Add a few seasonal touches…
Starfish or a patriotic element for summer, pumpkins and mums for fall, pine boughs or birch logs for winter, a pair of rain boots full of tulips for spring…
… any little thing that brings you a sense of the season…
Comfy pillows…
Almost every room needs comfy pillows right?
And if you can, add little something just outside your porch door to welcome friends and family…
I’ve been wanting to add something out here since we moved in, but the porch entrance isn’t big enough for even a pot of flowers…so I went vertical! See the antique brass bell just outside the door?!
The bell and iron bracket make a nice welcome to the porch…
And I almost forgot the most important necessity for ANY room!
A pup! (or a kitty…or a pet pig or a pet goat or a pet hamster – you get the picture!)
Have a lovely porch day my friends!

Robin,
Great tips on Summer Porch Decorating!!!
I would l o v e to have a screened~in porch!!!
Your touch of blue is tranquil, dear one!!!
Our “pets” here on the Prairie consists of the “Resident Rabbit” Pee Wee and her brood!!!
“Pee Wee” has given us four sets of off~spring. The off~spring usually hop off, but “Pee Wee” remains!!!
We adore it when they come upon the deck and peer into the Patio doors off the dining and living rooms!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Pat I LOVE that you have a bunny family! Our bunnies are eating all the flowers in the back yard…but that’s ok 🙂 I love those bunnies 🙂 ox
This is such a beautiful porch. I love it, and especially love that little metal ball. Where did you find that?
Hi April! Thanks so much…I got the little metal ball at Target in the garden section! They’re on sale right now!!! ox
