First, it’s Tablescape Thursday over at Between Naps on the Porch and Susan hosts blog party that is full of beautiful dishes, tables, center pieces…All Things Tablescape! I’m posting some pics of our table last Saturday when my daughter Emma and her fiancee’ Tim came to dinner and The Husband cooked ribs! (I’m blogging the ribs on Foodie Friday tomorrow!!!)
It’s full on Summer here in the South and we’re enjoying Summer Suppers on the weekend…
Tim and Em came over which was too fun for The Husband and I, empty nesters that we are!
I love using bandannas as napkins…so inexpensive and a plethora of colors! I wash and dry them first to soften the fabric…(So much fun for your July 4th cookout!)
Now in our little kitchen, Summer Suppers can consist of almost anything from Bar-B-Cue to Pasta Salads….
But there’s something you’ll always find at (most) Summer Suppers in the South…can you guess what it is?
Sweeeeeeet tea baby…and I mean SWEET! (I’m embarassed to tell you just HOW sweet…take my word for it…if you aren’t used to lots of shuga, shuga~ you may fall into a diabetic coma.) Ahhhh, refreshing.
Now…Reba Update…
Here is the beginning of our Reba’s story…
The mystery is solved…our once (very wild) kitty, Reba has proudly shown us her little family!!!
The Husband saw this little ball of fur when he went to feed Reba on Sunday night…
Whose eyes does she have???
Then he saw this! Not one but two!!! Oh joy!!!!
You know The Husband he’s a softy and was smitten immediately!
They are way up under our lower deck. Where, by the way, we have looked before…we promptly pulled the cars out of the garage and put a towel in a box and left the door open….we only thought we could park in our garage again after becoming empty-nesters…but nope. We have kittens that need that garage. This is where our little family spent Sunday night…
But by Monday morning she had the little sprites outside… Oh, and it looks like Barbara Jean wasn’t Reba’s “baby- daddy”! We remember seeing a black and white little cat hanging around for a couple of days a few months ago. Hummmmm.
We are hoping to handle the kittens and get them happy with humans! What should we name them? Any ideas????
I know we’ll be having to make some tough decisions soon…like how to get Reba to the vet for shots and to be fixed and what to do with the kittens…and how to buy stock in Zyrtec…
But for now…we’re enjoying their itty – bitty selves…(would love any advice …like how old before we feed them kitty food? )
Love to you Sweet Peeps and prayers for us both as we live today the legacy we want to leave…
I really like the colors and theme of your table. The napkin rings caught my eye!
those kittens are so darn cute. I can see why big guy was smitten!!

OOHHHHH!!!!
I have to be honest, I’ve never really been fond of cats [my mom is HORRIBLY allergic… like gets blisters on her eyes, so there were never cats around growing up] but I just completely fell head-over-heals in love with that kitten.
Head.Over.Heels.
If there’s a boy it should be Clarkson. [Kelly has toured a lot with Reba, after all…]

Cute! Although I’m no fan of cats, I have to admit. Are the little kitties boys or girls? You guys sound like foodies so maybe you’ll like the name my ex-boss called his cat – “Cous Cous”! Never mind the shares in Zyrtec, I just wish I could get my hands on some! My local chemist ran out of the kids’ version…sigh. Happy blogiversary too.
Hello my friend…
What a beautiful summery tablescape!!! I love the blue and yellow paired together in your pretty dishes! Ohhh…I love the idea of using bandanas for napkins…sheeeshhh, that thought never occurred to me. Thank you for the great idea…and you’re right, there are so many pretty colors and designs!!! I just love your pretty shell candle…gorgeous!!!
Ohhh…your baby kitties are just precious!!! I have a siamese kitty (a male)…he’s an outdoor cat but so spoiled! I just love him to death! My husband also loves cats…he’s just so fun to watch with them! He gets out his fishing pole and attaches a weight to the line…then he reels it out into the yard for the cats to play with! I think that’s just adorable! Hehe!!! Have fun with your new kittens!!!
Warmest wishes,
Chari

If your momma kitty is litter trained she will teach her babies to be also. She will wean them and encourage them to eat solid foods when the time is right so if you watch them, you will see them eating her food and then you can set out kitten food for them. Really, if you have a good momma kitty then you don’t need to do anything because she will teach them all that they need to know 🙂
They are adorable congratulations!

Oh our Reba is a wild stray kitty that we have fallen in love with in spite of the fact that The Husband has asthma and kitty’s set it off!!! Reba isn’t liter trained and she took one look at the little liter box I put in the garage and promptly turned her nose up and walked outside! She’s so much better after 6 months of coaxing but still we can’t pick her up. But I won’t worry at all about the food thing and just wait for them to start nibbling on mom’s food 🙂 thx for the advice!
I am so glad to hear….the rest of the Reba story…..glad they are ok….Have a blessed day.
I’ll admire them from afar (after all, I Can Haz Cheesburger is one of our fave sites in this house)
But I’m allergic to most cats too…I researched allergies for 6 months before choosing our British Shorthair for my wife. I’m smitten with her (and the cat… 🙂

Beautiful table and precious kitties! Sweet tea…my very most favorite drink ever! I am originally from MS and now live in SC, both being sweet tea states! When visiting my daughter last week, she wanted a lesson in making sweet tea. Before I knew it, her roomies from Ohio, CA and PA were gathered around to know how to do it. I think they are addicted. 🙂
Thanks for the birdy magnet link. They are so cute and would be a fun project do with my niece.

What amazes me is that you washed the bandanas first! Your beach scene would make perfect tablescapes for a beach wedding. And give us your rib recipe. I made Mike’s burgers last night. Soooooo good. 🙂
The kitties. I’ll make sure Jamie reads this. She’s a cat person–has two now and has friends who are Cat People just like her. I love the baby kitties ears. They’re not pointy, but sort of round. I think it’s too soon to tell if they’re boys/girls.
Hint* Cats can get pregnant again really soon after they give birth.
I just love your pretty tablescape, a virtual feast for the eyes. It sure makes me think beach and summer, which happen to be two of my most favorite things 🙂
Such cute kitties!! We tried to take in kitties twice. But Kota was not having any of it. I’m gonna go with Scout and Jem for the names for the kitties, since you already have a Boo. (Although I do know you are very adept with cute names!) I would love to have a “Scout” in my future in the way of a puppy. One day maybe. Beautiful bokeh shot! I love the twinkling blurs behind Mike’s hand and the kitty, such a pretty effect. So fun to get a peek at the extended family!! Love to you!

I love the kittens! They are beautiful. I think they have to be 6 or 7 weeks before you feed them food. Not sure about names now, but I will ask my 10 year old, Braxton! I am sure he will have some neat ideas!

I really enjoyed the story on the kitties. That is a precious picture of your husband with the little kittens.

Hi Robin,..
Your table is so welcoming! Did you always “do up” your table as your children were growing or did you start that after they were bigger? My little ones would be making a mess of such a beautiful setting and then I’d be frustrated at all the work for them to destroy it. I need to find another way to look at it … so that we could both enjoy the fun of a beautiful table setting.
The kitties are so cute! And I’m glad Reba is taking to your pampering. You could name them Peace and Harmony….we could always use more peace and harmony around and about!
Aubien’s last blog post..Briefly…
Aubien, the kids helped me in the kitchen almost every night. They would either set the table, help cook or help clean up. I didn’t go all out every night but once or twice a week I’d put candles or flowers on the table and I’d often have music in the background…although they hated my music which was instrumental!!! 🙂
It does get easier to focus on frills as they get older but oh I’d love to go back to the time when they were all under-foot and messing up my table!!! Hugs~Robin
What a fresh and pretty table! Oh, and those kittens are so adorable!!!

Robin,
The kittens are precious, the momma will teach them everything they need to know. She might even teach them to be wary of people so continue to pet them and love on them a lot. I also agree with the comment to get Reba fixed sooner than latter, else you may have another litter. Good luck with the allergies. My husband is allergic too but developed a tolerance after extended exposure.

Oh good advice about continuing to pet them… I don’t want them to be afraid of people like their little Mama…And I am going to talk to my vet about having Reba fixed…getting her there is a whole other story though!
Cute kitties. I love your tablescape – so beachy and summery!
Someone already mentioned the names I was going to say…
Jet and Smokey
I remember my cats kittens eating pablum at about 5-6 weeks, and then adding soft cat food alittle at a time till their tummys could take it full strength…I have done that with 2 other kittens over the years and it works very well.
Enjoy them all, Reba looks so sweet with her kittens
Hi Robin – Using bandanas for napkins is so cute and one I’ll definitely use. I am particularly fond of the color you selected. I don’t believe I’ve seen them in any colors other than navy and red.
Your baby kittens are so precious and are even cuter after they open their little eyes.

Oh my, what absolutely darling kitties. I LOVE love love all kinds of baby animals, so basically I’m dieing over those adorable furballs. We adopted our very own black kitty while visiting Mississippi for my boyfriend’s Mawmaw’s funeral. Sad times of course, but we came away with such a great kitty. She so friendly and loveable. And since she’s a Southern Belle, we named her Belle.
Good luck with the new family!

HI Robin! First of all: our yard is EXACTLY like yours! The only flowers I plant in my pots, in the ground and in my window boxes on the decks are impatiens! Well, I do use potato vine and other vines in the pots to mix it up alittle! But we are surrounded by wooods too! I ahve hated it for years and just this year have started to appreciate it. It is very messy….I can sweep and/or blow my dedcks 3 times a day but……………
Now….your table is beautiful! PLEASE tell me where you got those napkin rings, I LOVE THEM!!!!!! The kittens are adorable too! I droool over all your cooking blogs too, everything looks SO delish! We love to entertain too! What state are you in???? I post on Susan’s blog alot of TT’s so come on over and see me there if you want! Would love for you to see my tables too! (I don’t have a blog but can still post with her). Have a GREAT weekend! Hugs, Pinky
What a pretty mama cat with her cute little kittens. I agree with getting the mom to the vet. Maybe the vet has an idea of how to coax her to you. We took in a stray that turned out to be abandoned. She was declawed and spayed and after her first traumatic months when she was scared to death of us and we had to fight to keep her alive, she really warmed up to us. Now she lives in the house and is quite the little clown and is also quite demanding about wanting us to pet her. It took time and patience, but, it payed off.

I agree about the bandanas. I have a drawer full of them. Lovely table and thank you for sharing about Reba.
Blessings,
Alicia
Those beautiful kittens are a gift from God. They remind us of what is truly important; Ilove tablescaping, I have 2 dogs, I’m allergic to cats, but I could take those beautiful babies in a minute. How about calling one Matthew: it means gift from God and one midnight. Enjoy them and the experience, evn if you have to give the up. It brings all of us to a very good place.
