Last summer we had a screen porch built off of our bedroom. Shortly after, Mike made these two swing beds, and we love them. We sit out here almost every morning and sometimes after the sunset, the porch is a peaceful place for the pups, Reba-the-cat and I to slow down after a long day.Our bedroom isn’t very big, but these French doors, that we used to replace a double window, change everything. Even when they’re shut the room feels opened up.
I picked out brick tile for the floor and beadboard for the ceiling.
Also, the board and batten makes the porch feel like part of the bedroom.
When Mike made the swings he decided to use the Tudor, half-timber as his design inspiration, almost everything Mike makes for our house has some sort of Tudor element.
Mike constructed the swing so that a crib mattress would fit as the cushion. But I needed a cover! After looking at custom cushion covers online I decide that 400 dollars was out of the question! Instead, I layered the mattress.
First a mattress protector, then a crib sheet…
Then a thick throw…
Lastly, a few pillows…
The side tables are painted tree stumps from two trees we had to cut down in our yard. (I so hate to cut down trees and saving a little part of them makes me feel better)
Reba-the-cat loves her new porch. Seriously though, this kitty thinks she’s letting us live in her house. 😉
The screen porch was a splurge and the swing beds added a whole lot of comfy. I know screen porches might not be practical in some areas, but here in the south, they sure are nice. Even if you don’t have a screen porch, a swing bed would be wonderful hanging under a deck, trust me, you’d love it…

Oh wow, this porch is dreamy!! The swings are beautiful!! What a great addition to your home. I love my screened in back porch, but don’t sit out there enough. I think I need a swing. 😉
Love, love love your porch & bedroom. How talented you both are.
I am quite new to your blog I’ve got a lot of catch up reading to do!
So great to see you posting again! Love the porch. We have a screened porch at our cottage in Wisconsin and it is my favorite place to be at all times of the day. Our porch here in AZ isn’t screened, but there isn’t a bug problem and I love to sit and watch the humming birds and butterflies in the yellow lantana that is planted in the beds that line the porch.
