“To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts.”
~Henry David Thoreau
My friend Jenn sent me a text with that quote …”does that not describe Sara?” she asked.
Yes.
It perfectly describes Sara.
She affected the quality of my days for three years.
She poured love and encouragement and empathy into my little world.
She reached over miles and nurtured me.
Me…twelve years her senior, still she nurtured.
My days were better because of Sara.
And in affecting my days…she affected my life because as Annie Dillard says:
“How we live our days is how we live our lives”
This makes me wonder…
Do I affect the people I come in contact with in a positive way?
Do I pour out love and encouragement and empathy…
Or stress and sharpness and judgment?
(~Father, help me to be an artist, affecting others for your glory~)
*****
Today is Sara’s wake and my heart is profoundly sad.
And that’s okay because today, for me, sadness is appropriate.

I’m still counting gifts…
900-For my friend Sara, who was a master in the highest of arts…
Do I affect the people I come in contact with in a positive way?
Do I pour out love and encouragement and empathy…
ABSOLUTELY you do!!!!! You and Sara have alot in common: you fill my heart each day too. YOu are the best, my friend. Sending BIG hugs to you! XO, Pinky
I second Pinky with YES, YOU DO nurture and encourage. Mourning with you. When you hurt I hurt, when you rejoice I rejoice! His strength to you.
Agree with Pinky and Tom. You’ve been there, you are there for me. What a beautiful quote from Thoreau. Thank you. Love you.
Robin, my thoughts are with you today!
Great questions for today and everyday. Sara’s legacy will live on forever. How blessed are we to have been touched by her life? Now, are we going to touch other’s lives? Robin, you have touched mine. 🙂
Thank you, Robin. So very, very well said.
What a beautiful, heartfelt message today, Robin. Sending you big hugs!
Shirley
May your memories of Sara comfort you.
