It was February 2010.
Not a normal February in GA. As a matter of fact, I don’t remember a winter in the deep south ever before or ever since being so frigid for so many months.
I’m stubborn in my love for snow peeps, but I’m gonna tell you the truth, that year the cold temps and biting winds were wearing on my last nerve, I’m a lifelong southerner after all.
As I grabbed a scarf to wrap around my neck to ward off the morning chill, I grumbled …
Will this blasted winter EVER end!?
Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted the gorgeous tulips left over from Valentine’s Day.
Their very presence seemed to be promising that warmer days were on the way.
But I wasn’t buying it…
“You can’t tell by me that warmer days are coming”, my mind said to the tulips, “Everything around here screams winter. I’ll put you on the screen porch and we’ll see how long you’ll last…”
A thought interrupted my inner rant:
When you can’t see anything happening, that’s when God’s behind the scenes, doing His biggest work.
I think the long winter may have been bothering me so much because inside I was caught in a spiritual winter of sorts.
Remember what the angel of the Lord told Daniel…
I thumbed through my Bible until I found the verses:
11 He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.”
12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. 13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.
Have you humbled yourself and asked God for help?
Well Sweet One…Help’s on the way-
This winter won’t last forever.
Have you ever been in a season in life that felt like a never-ending winter?
A time when nothing good seems to be happening and day after day your world looks like a harsh unfriendly place. Are you asking God to move you out of that season?
Take heart sweet friends…God hears you. Like Daniel, your answer’s coming. Oftentimes, when we can’t see anything changing…well, that’s when God’s doing the greatest work…
xoxo
I once heard Bible teacher and radio pastor, Steve Brown, say, “Never forget in the dark what God has taught you in the light.” I hang on to that a lot-through the winters and the storms and the floods-that crowd my soul. I think it goes along with what you have written here. Much love to you today Robin.
What a beautiful post – I love tulips over all flowers. I live in Texas and know what you mean – we have been 20 degrees below normal since Christmas – enough winter for me. I absolutely love your flair for words.
I love tulips, and those are exquisite. Spring is becoming a dangerous word for us again this year. While visions of sunshine and flowers in bloom grow in my head, with the wet fall, and the amount of snowfall we’ve had… the words major and flood are circling our heads and I am weary just thinking about it. Thank you for the gift of your words today.

What a great post. I love tulips. I just put flowers on my Facebook page to share this morning and also got the most wonderful e-mail. You click on a snowman and it takes you to a black screen and you hold your mouse and drag it all over and get tons of colorful flowers. Wish I knew how to post it and share it, all I could do was forward it. I would not like to live where it snows. It is beautiful, but I love the sunny days of Northern California mixed with the gloomy and rainy days. Today it is sunny and breezy, so I am sending sunshine to you. Have a wonderful day.

God made seasons for a reason and I love the fact that I experience all of them where I live. I love Winter! And, tulips too.
Have I ever been in a season that seems like WINTER!!!!!??? You bet! Having had 2 parents and 2 children fight addiction, I have had MANY seasons…..but Spring DOES always come….eventually. God works behind the scenes, and we need to remember to GET OUT OF HIS WAY and let Him!!!!! Xo, Pinky
Truly my life right now. Thank you for taking the time to post such an encouraging thought to those of us experiencing God’s invisible touch right now.
