There are only three weekends until Christmas. That’s three Friday night dinners. Three Saturday’s stretching out in front of us full of opportunity. Three Sunday’s to worship and rest and refresh. What will you do with that precious time?
I ask because I’m determined to live deliberately, I don’t want a holiday, a season, or God forbid an entire year to sweep me along in the busyness of life. It’s happened in years past but these days I’m careful to consider my days.
Christmas Day is a wonder for certain but it’s not so much the wonder of the actual day is it? When I was a young mom, I’d get to January and reflect on the season and realize it was the days of hustle and bustle before Christmas Day that held the real magic. Those days when I could be heard saying things like:
…”if I can just buy all the presents- then I’ll relax,
if I can just get my baking done for the neighbors- then I’ll feel less stressed out,
if I can just finish the decorating- then I’ll do a project with the kids,
the moment I finish the wrapping- I’m taking a day off to bake cookies with the kids…”
If I could go back for just a moment I’d whisper to that younger me: ” be keenly aware of every moment. Even the busy ones. Look your little ones right in the eyes and stop what you’re doing and listen to them. And do something crazy like leaving the chores of Christmas undone. Make some hot chocolate and snuggle in front of a Christmas movie…right in the middle of the day”
Because after all, when the hustle and bustle is checked off my ‘to-do’ list, the season will be only a memory.
I looked at the calendar this morning and thanked God for the three weekends before Christmas and said a prayer that I won’t wait “until I’m done” to breathe in and take joy in the moments I’ve been given.
Are you deliberately living your moments?
I’m not sure what the next few days have in store for you but I thought I’d sprinkle in a little bit of inspiration for a few different things…(Click on photos for tutorials or recipes!)
Wanna do a project with the kiddos? This one was a hit last year. It’s easy and it’d be a fun decoration for their bedrooms or a nice gift for their teacher!
Party planning? Here’s an idea from my family party last year, it’s a really fun kids table! (this was before we changed our colors in the house!)
Wanna make a quick party favor or hostess gift? These Fun winter coasters might work for you!
Baking this weekend? This is a delicious cookie recipe, (Surprise Cookies)they have a Rollo in the center and toffee on the top!
And I can’t forget those of you who are you having a difficult Holiday. Some are hurting, grieving, angry or sad. If that’s you, prayers are being said for you Sweet One. I’ve had so many of those tough Christmas seasons when decorating, baking and celebrating were the last things on my mind.
I wrote my thoughts about those times, those seasons…I call them The Crying Seasons: HERE.
And you know my Christmas wish for you my friends…whatever you do this weekend…
