Only 5 more days till Christmas!
Do you have any traditions you’ll be keeping in the next 5 days?
We have one more family time: Christmas Eve!
I’ve been doing a bit of baking for that party when our kids, and now granddaughters, come over to open presents, play games and just relax. After lots of parties and special occasions, Christmas Eve is family time at it’s best.
We start by having a table full of finger foods and spiced cider. We play games and this year, my daughter Bethany had the idea to start a new tradition of making an ornament with our little girls.
My mom used to do crafts on Thanksgiving Day with her grandchildren and my kids and I still have Christmas ornaments from those days so long ago. It’s funny how those simple handmade Christmas ornaments get more precious with each passing year.
For out first ornaments, we’re doing these that I found on Pinterest from Outside the Blue(the snow men are made with a little handprint! )
And for our two tinier girls, maybe something like this from A Sorta Fairy Tale Blog
They’re so easy and when we add the date it’ll be fun to pull them out every year and compare their little hands…
I also have a long-standing tradition of getting matching Christmas pajamas or as I call ’em: PaJayJays , for all the girls…here are some of the ones we wore in years past- (the ones I chose this year are my favorites by far!)
Mercifully, I don’t force matching pjs on the men anymore 🙂
As the sun goes down, we open presents and I set up a ‘panini bar’ with lots of sandwich fillings and a panini press.
It’s a simple day but honestly it’s my favorite get together of the whole season.
One more thing…
Because I think the easiest way to ruin a family tradition is for someone’s ( mostly mine!), tone and words to be harsh, The Husband and I try to take a moment to say a prayer before all our family parties, that peace would rest on everyone that comes through the door and that both the words we say and the tone in which we say them, would be full of grace.
I’d love to hear about the traditions you’ve got coming in the next five days…
~Have a simply grace-filled day my friends~
