Not only did I paint my little drop leaf table for the screen porch project (posted HERE) but I also white washed the floors on the porch!
A few months ago when I decided to redecorate the screen porch (on a shoestring budget), I researched flooring options. This is how the floors looked before:
After looking for a budget friendly option, ย I decided to stain the wood deck with a transparent stain.
I went to The Home Depot and got a Semi Transparent Deck Stain in Pinto White...
After sanding and thoroughly cleaning the floor, I applied the stain with a sprayer. As I stood back and looked at a few of the boards I just didn’t love it. So after the stain dried for a few minutes,ย I wiped some of it off with a rag. Now that’s better!
The boards look a bit like drift wood ! I realize this won’t be something everyone likes. Some of you may think: why do I want my floor to look like old drift wood??? I completely understand! But I like it and until we have some extra pennies in our piggy bank this $33.00 option is perfection!
The process was quick even though you can only work with a small section at a time. And seriously, the porch is brighter with the light color floors!
If you can’t replace your porch floors this is a nice cost effective alternative!
Thank you Diana! I soooo love my blog friends they are super creative!
I spent all day yesterday staining all that pressure treated wood that make up the sides of the porch.ย I used the same semi-transparent white stain from Home Depot, I can’t wait for you to see it!
If you have a covered porch, do-tell,ย what kind of flooring does it have???
Hugs and smooches Peeps!

I love white washed floors. Inside the house too. You know that I love white a lot!
Julia, I’m like you about white!!! Saying prayers for you this morning sweetie hugs hugs hugs
So you, yourself, without The Husband did this??? I am totally impressed. Did you use an electric sander? And the stain only cost $33?
Wow. All I can say is wow. I truly have a DIY friend. Can’t wait to show Ricky.
Julie, Ricky will laugh because it’s soooooo easy! I did use my trusty electric sander! And the stain was a great price at the Home Depot! xo
I love it! Can’t wait to see the rest. It’s a porch of shabby love and the rug should pull it all together once you finish painting.
Diana, thanks honey. The rug really does pull it together!!! xo
The floor looks great and I never stop being amazed with your talent for DIY projects. The table looks amazing on the new floor!
Very inviting porch~
Brenda, thank you bunches! love u
Hmm, I never thought about whitewashed floors before on a porch but they look really good. What a job though! I guess anything worth doing is though. ๐ We haven’t ever painted or stained our porch floors but we have talked about it a lot. ๐ I’d like to paint them grey. I even have the paint. :/
Your solution turned out really well! Looks gorgeous. ๐
Thanks Shelly, you are so kind ๐ xo
Love, love the white wash floors. You did an amazing job. I’m a rustic kind of person and this is beautiful to me.
Annelle, thank you Sweeite! I feared that everyone would hate the floors :0 I’m so happy that you feel about them like I do! xo
I love it love it love it!!! Such a small change made such a huge difference on your sweet porch! Great job – and great idea!! ๐
xoxo laurie
Laurie! Thank you my friend! That little change really did make a big difference! I hope someone else can get inspiration for their porch space! xoxo
Very nice! I currently have 6 salvaged French doors and 5, 5-paneled antique doors sitting out in my yard. I’m .. um .. “encouraging” then to weather. Part of my plan was to white wash them once enough of the old finishes chipped off. This is very encouraging and I love the look.
GREAT job!
Christine, the doors sound WONDERFUL!!!!! Hope to see your finished weathered products!!! xoxo
I love the look, you did an awesome job!
thanks so much Gabrielle xoxo
Since seeing your article, this is what I plan on doing to my porch floor as soon as my husband finishes screening it in. Had to screen it in due to my chickens were taking over and eating the cats food, yes, fat chickens.
I love the look and had stained a shelf with driftwood but didn’t like it. I’m going with the color you did yours.
Thanks so much!
Kimberli, I think you will really like the floors finished like this! Good luck my friend xo
