Easy Valentine Craft for Kids: DIY Owl Mobile
Spending time creating something together is one of the simplest ways to make lasting memories with children. Crafts don’t need to be complicated or expensive to be meaningful — sometimes the easiest projects turn into the most memorable ones.
Easy Valentine Craft for Kids: DIY Owl Mobile
Recently my granddaughter and I made a simple Valentine owl mobile, and it turned out to be such a fun little project. It uses inexpensive craft supplies and can easily be made with younger children.
The best part is that kids can do most of the work themselves.
Supplies for the Valentine Owl Mobile
Materials
- Felt owl craft kit or felt shapes
- Felt heart stickers or cut felt hearts
- Small embroidery hoop
- Baker’s twine
- Ribbon
- Hole punch
- Hot glue gun or craft glue
Using a small craft kit can make this project even easier because the shapes are already cut out and ready to assemble.
Step 1: Assemble the Felt Owls
Start by assembling the felt owls. If you’re using a craft kit, children can simply place the sticker pieces together and add the eyes.
This step is perfect for younger kids because it allows them to create something independently while still feeling successful.
Step 2: Create the Hanging Decorations
Next, attach pieces of baker’s twine to the owls and felt hearts.
Using a hole punch, make small holes in the felt shapes. Then tie the twine through the holes, creating several strands of different lengths.
This variation in length helps the mobile look balanced once it’s hanging.
Step 3: Wrap the Embroidery Hoop
Wrap ribbon around the embroidery hoop to give it a finished look.
Secure the ribbon ends with a small amount of glue so it stays in place.
Leave a little extra ribbon to create the loop that will hang the mobile.
Step 4: Attach the Mobile Pieces
Tie the strands of owls and hearts around the embroidery hoop.
Space them evenly around the ring so the decorations hang nicely. You can also tie small ribbon bows along the hoop or the strings to add extra color.
Finished Valentine Owl Mobile
Once everything is tied in place, your Valentine mobile is ready to hang.
This craft looks especially sweet hanging in a child’s room, near a window, or above a craft table.
Why Crafts With Kids Matter
Not every parent or grandparent considers themselves “crafty,” and that’s perfectly okay.
The real value of projects like this isn’t perfection — it’s the time spent together.
Children remember the moments when someone sat down with them, created something, and made them feel special.
Sometimes even a simple craft like a Valentine mobile can become a small memory that stays with them for years.
