Decorating with a big budget must be lots of fun. I really don’t know that for certain, but I’m thinking it’d be a blast. What I do know is decorating on a tight budget is not only exciting it’s also a great creativity booster!
I had the best time hunting down woodland theme decorations for my friend’s rehearsal dinner.
Woodland Theme is all about natural elements and a great place to start is with moss! JoAnns sells a big Moss Sheet (Under $10.00 with coupon!) which will cover one pretty large wreath HERE or a BUNCH of other things!
I covered picture frames (from the dollar store), Styrofoam balls (dollar store), leftover Christmas balls (dollar store), ceramic bunnies…you could of course cover other paper mache’ critters which would be oh-so-cute! We thought about using the moss sheets for table runners but she had several tables and it wasn’t cost effective. Also people, moss is messy!
I loved the way this little ceramic bunny turned out…
And look at the moss covered balls…I used Styrofoam balls for the larger ones and covered leftover Christmas balls for the medium and small ones! (Using Christmas balls-8 for $1.00 at the Dollar Tree, is so much cheaper than Styrofoam balls for crafts. I make yarn balls with these too!)
Another great addition to a woodland theme is a bird’s nest…I wanted to make Patti some of these Bird’s Nests in Clay Pots (posted HERE)… but I couldn’t find any nests that were the right size!
So I made some out of moss (from the Dollar Store!) Just take a palm-full of moss and bunch it tight, then hollow it out like a nest and using floral wire like a needle and thread…”sew” through the underside to hold it together!
In addition to all kinds of moss, I also used spools of bark to help create the woodland feel…I got this at JoAnns and it was half off! (under $4.00) But I thought it was too dark, so I rolled it out and spray painted it cream! Just a light coating!
I used the bark to wrap around Dollar Tree tall vases and square glass candle holders to give them a more woodsy look. In the tall vases can you see the river rocks and large votive? Also from the dollar tree…oh, and the large votive had a silver metal holder which offended me. So I painted it bronze!
These little squirrels were once ever-so-tacky at the dollar tree. But I kinda love them after I spray painted them! I used silver first and then splashed a bit of bronze here and there…(I did this with some little birds too!)
I found this stone-look planter at JoAnns for half-off (it ended up being $10.00!) I looked everywhere for these and they are pricey at home & garden stores!
I played around with this…but ended up not using them…
Lastly…I posted a little tutorial for this woodland theme basket centerpiece HERE
