My 3 and 1/2 year old granddaughter Ellie and I did a fun little Valentine’s Day craft last week.
I was in a bit of a hurry so I took the easy peasy way out, buying the owl kit at Hobby Lobby. The little kit came with heavy felt sticker cut-outs and googly eyes to make 6 owls and it was under $3.00!
The dollar section at Target had sticker felt hearts and red and white baker’s twine and the Dollar Tree had some pink ribbon. So as you can see this was a pretty inexpensive project!
When I bought all those little red and pink supplies I wasn’t completely sure what I would do with them, then I saw a small embroidery hoop in my craft closet and it came to me…a Valentine Mobile!
(Just look at my Tiny-Love, she wanted to play dress up before craft time)
Ellie put the owls from the kit together all by herself and then sandwiched a few of the felt heart stickers back to back.
Using a hole punch I made holes and tied different lengths of bakers twine to the owls and the hearts…
Then I wrapped the embroidery hoop with ribbon, glued the ends and tied the owls and hearts here-there-and-everywhere all around the hoop. Save some ribbon for hanging the mobile and some small pieces to tie around the hoop and on the twine to make everything fancy 🙂
Not every grandmom, mom or auntie is crafty. That’s okay…everyone has something unique to offer the children in their lives. The important thing is to spend time with them. Doesn’t it take your breath away to know you can make a difference in the life of a child? Even doing something as silly as making a Valentine’s Day mobile might just make that baby feel special and loved.
Okay…
…back to the mobile.
You could easily cut your own felt shapes and glue them together but in case you want to use the easy craft kits from Hobby Lobby, I’d advise that you run right out and get one because they’ll be gone before ya know it!
Ellie loves craft-time and she doesn’t mind if I cheat a little and buy the ready to make craft kits!
If you have a sweet child in your life what’s your favorite thing to do with them???
Sending you love my friends
What a fun idea! Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us Nanas!
How cute, I love the owls with hearts it is so different.
Adorable.
If I walk on my knees, can I come to craft time?
