I finished our little screen porch makeover!
I wanted to update the porch using elements from the inside living space to better connect the rooms.
Here’s the inspiration board I put together for the porch. Putting together a board helps me stay on task when I’m making over a space, as you’ll see, I allow myself wiggle room when putting things together, but overall I stick with the plan! (HERE is the info. on the items on the board)
The first thing I did was pick out a Behr Paint color for the drop leaf table (with a little help from my friends at Behr). The table had to stay. I love her character and she folds out to accommodate 6 for dinner! (HERE is the post about the gorgeous Behr Paint color!)
After researching floor options and deciding that for now, they were all outside of my budget, I decided to try whitewashing the old deck floor. While picking up the paint for the table at Home Depot, I talked to a helpful paint specialist about the Behr Semi Transparent Stain…HERE is the post all about this easy whitewashing technique ~
I had some of the Behr Semi Transparent Stain left over so I did a little whitewashing on the rails…I love the way just a little stain brightened up the space…HERE is the post about whitewashing the rails~
My easy DIY Grapevine Orb Light was a fun project…(HERE)
The light blends with the outdoor feel of the room…
And it makes such a dreamy glow at night and in the early mornings when we are up before the sun having our coffee and quiet time! (The DIY light is HERE)
The makeover was on a small budget but I did order a couple of key pieces that I truly love…
First this Terra Cotta Whitewashed Garden Stool from The Home Depot Online… I absolutely LOVE this piece! We use it between our comfy chairs and it’s perfect! The finish is absolutely dreamy, I actually keep thinking of places I could use it in other rooms! (the chairs are swivel rockers, Martha Stewart- from the Home Depot!) (find the Garden Stool HERE)
The other thing I ordered was the scrumptious rug. I got it from Overstock and if you’ve never ordered from there…ya gotta! They are really less expensive and have a HUGE variety of all-things-home and their shipping is super quick! The rug was my inspiration for everything else and honest guys…I’ve never loved a rug more 🙂 (Here’s the rug)
The clock on my inspiration board was great but it was $80.00! Even the less expensive ones I found were out of my budget because I was out of pennies! So I made this one from old pallet wood – it was the easiest clock EVER! (Clock Tutorial HERE)
The porch came together on a smallish budget and although The Husband growled a little when I told him my plan to make over the porch, he TOTALLY loves it!
I mean loves it so much he’s said lots of times…“I”m glad you did all this to the porch”… score!
I added a chippy bench from the bedroom…it’s a nice place for plants and when someone comes over I just sit the plants on the floor and the bench is perfect for extra seating! (We thought about an outdoor love set here but I didn’t want to bscure the view!)
We have coffee out here in the early mornings and several evenings a week we have dinner on the porch!
Oh, and isn’t that a beautiful planter!? It’s from Target~
Here’s the view towards the inside of the house…and in this photo you can see my little DIY Succulent Wreath...she’s ever-so- happy on the porch 🙂
Here’s a before and after…
It’s so much fun to work on an outdoor project after a long winter!
UPDATE***
Here’s the screen porch this spring…(2015)

Jodi, thank you Honey! xoox
Gorgeous. I can see why you have been using it so much – it looks totally comfortable and cozy.
Gracie, thank you bunches!!! xoxo
Can you tell me where you got the drop leaf table???? Is there a paint I could use on a wooden table that would hold up OUTSIDE and not protected, like your porch is. We are going to build a deck and patio. The deck will be small so I would LOVE a drop leaf out there for the 2 of us that could open for guests. Your porch looks AWESOME! Glad Mike is happy. Oh, and also, what is the source for the 2 pots on your inspiration board? Thanks so much. XOXO, Pinky
inky we got the table at an antique market it was a disaster and it was cheap! I don’t think any wood with the exception of pressure treated would be completely safe outdoors…even with a good outdoor paint on it…I’ll go back and find the source for the pots and FB message you! xoox
I know I tried to comment yesterday and will try it again now 😉
Everything looks great! I love that rug and totally agree about Overstock. They rule! My living room rug is from them as well.
Julia, for some reason your comments are just being sent to need-moderation. But they don’t disappear!!! Thank you! and I’ve gotta go visit you because I want to see your Overstock rug, I don’t remember it! xo
Robin the porch is wonderful, all the colors of nature. I love everything especially the clock!
Love your porch, Robin! It is so you–I see why your hubby loves it. 🙂 We live in a wooded area, so we gave our screened-in porch a log-cabin feel using rich brown stains and we love it. I purchased a chippy sign at a craft fair that says “Welcome to the Porch.” I think screened-in porches are play-pens for grown ups. Enjoy! 🙂
Marie, I love love love it: Play pens for grown ups!!! So true! And the idea of a log-cabin feel is so inviting and cozy! My friend Julie has a log cabin and that would be perfect for her too! xoxo
Love this Robin…I hope to have a porch some day! Maybe the husband…ha! Blessings as you continue to create and share with your gifts.
thank you Tom…I’ll tell Mike you need a porch !!! 🙂
Talk about Porch Party atmosphere!!!! A-maaaaaaa-zing, Robin. I love every square inch!!! I could look at this forever~~
thanks Julie…come over let’s spend the day on the porch!!!! xo
Would love to, Robin! xoxo
Looks fabulous, Robin! The colors blend nicely with all the trees around your backyard. I can imagine sitting there on a hot summer day with a glass of iced tea. Talk about relaxing!!! Now it’s time to just sit back and enjoy your beautiful porch! xxoo
Looks so inviting!! I’m sure you just love it!! 🙂
The porch turned out beautifully. I would use it as a sleeping porch sometimes if it were mine!
We have several porches here, but none are screened. Our sunporch is right next to the kitchen, so we do dine there regularly in warmer months, or out on the covered patio with the ceiling fan on!
LOVE IT!! Where did you find that rug? I love the Ikat design and the colors!
Wow! Looks fantastic! I’m sure y’all will enjoy many wonderful morning, days and evenings in such a lovely, nature-filled setting. I’ve got to get going on our back porch/covered patio. Have been slowly putting ideas together on a board in Pinterest and I think that is going to be very helpful.
Well, excuse ME while I FALL. IN. LUV…porch love, that is. 🙂
You have really made an adorable spot on this pretty porch. Love your colors.
Now, I am going to see how much that garden seat is…I would love to have it.
xo bj
I love your porch project! I am doing our back porch this year, too. I am just getting started, because a robin built a nest in my wreath I left out there and she hatched 4 baby birds. I had to wait until they left the nest before I could even set foot on my porch. I can’t wait to start (and finish)! Hope it is just half as pretty as yours!
you are so sweet Mary to wait on the little bird!!! xo
I love it! all of it but the lighting is my favorite!!
Thank you sweetie, I like the light too! 🙂 xo
Looks so relaxing.
Absolutely love this porch! Found you on FB Connection. Going to share this on my FB page today, thank you for the inspiration! We have a porch, but no screens 🙁 Would love to screen it in one day. Have a lovely Sunday!
Thank you Julie, so nice to meet you! xoox
It looks beautiful! You did a great job.
I am utterly charmed! Your sweet space looks like something right out a country magazine. Looks like the perfect space to spend many prefect moments!!
Shannon, thank you sweetie xo
Thank you sweetie xo
what are the dimensions of your porch..love it
Cherri, the porch is 18 x 18!
thanks for the dimensions I have an 8×24 deck that I would love to cover…yours is such an inspiration.I want to whitewash my deck and I know you can mix it yourself…How did you make your wash…the one I found said to mix hydrated lime mixture with a salt and water mix after it sets 24 hours….Thanks so much.
Cherri, I used a Behr stain, the info should be in the blog post. I’ve never made a homemade mix! Sounds kind of exciting though! xo
I LOVE THIS!!! GREAT JOB. I want one just like it.
